Thank you for sharing your perspective - I whole-heartedly agree. The article is brief and doesn't cover the organizational perspective. I think your write up is very effective.

One of the key points from your response is that organizations don't need data scientists as much as they think they do. Because 1.) they don't have enough data, 2.) their gap is actually data governance and/or data infrastructure (i.e. the data isn't clean enough for the data scientist to do meaningful work), or 3.) they can train software engineers from in-house to work as MLEs.

Somebody still has to figure out how to set up and deploy the cloud infrastructure, but they don't need to have a PhD in statistics, data science, or AI - though it couldn't hurt.

Just my two cents to add to your dollar.
